Is there a top that will do all this for the winter commute?

-plenty of reflective material at the front (not bothered about the back)
-won't get ruined by a rucksack
-warm
-not too costly
-possible to rinse it off under a tap (getting mud flicking up all over my front/sleeves currently).
-won't soak through if there's a little rain

Closest thing I've seen so far is the Gore Phantom II but it's a bit pricey and not sure about being able to rinse it off under a tap.

Any suggestions please

    Altura Night Vision?
Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos

Just got one, and absolutely love it! It's super warm though, only for the colder days IMO.

To the OP, worry less about reflective bits and put your efforts into Real Lights. Much more effective.

It's awesome. I was very apprehensive about the price, but it's worth every penny. Wear a baselayer with it though.

Btw, why do you want to be able to rinse it off under a tap thought? A wet cloth might do the job of getting the mud off.

A cheaper alternative to the Phantom is the Contest. I've just got hold of a Contest Active Shell and it's excellent. Think it cost me £63 delivered.

I have a Phantom 2, £67 posted. Although I did have to check on eBay every week for two months.

Altura do/did a soft shell version of the Night Vision jacket for £40. Evans still have it but only in a Small/Yellow.

If I am driving in town I notice the reflective bits much more than standard lights i.e. cateyes etc

in these enlightened times it is considered acceptable for a gentleman to bicycle in a boater or tweed cap without causing offence to a lady. Avoid the bowler hat though sir, lest you wish to be mistaken for a valet.

I think you'll find that this is the only way for a gentleman to meet acceptable safety standards when cycling:

gone for the altura night vision windproof - £40 seemed reasonable and it's got good reviews and plenty of reflective bits.
