After a shamefull experiance at Afan a couple of weeks back
(i had to pretty much sit down the whole of the last decent because my arms were so tired they couldnt hold me up after a weekend of riding  ), I have decided to get the upper body fit again. :D
Before getting back into riding i was a avid gym goer and dare i say it pretty fit. :!:
now the "adiction" of riding all the time has taken away my upper body strength. :(

Last year i was doing the "100 push up" training and that worked a treat, so i thought through the winter i'll try to get back to that level :?:

What do you guys do to keep the upper body fit (if anything) :?

PS if anyone wants a copy of the 100 push up program PM me your email address.

just keep riding. If you're doing DH, or big drops, it will work your upper body anyway.

well, in that case, just doo some freeweights.
I use 20 Kg dumbells, and do curls, presses, bench presses, and also some work on my core when I can't go out on the bike for one reason or another.
Keeps me strong as an ox.

I do press-ups, pull-ups, crunches and use a resistance band, does the job without a lot of expense.

Also was it you that came down the hill in Thorndon on Saturday behind me.
Now where's that "Get Out of Crash Free Card"

I surf a lot and do a pretty strenuous home workout twice a week - intense press ups (including handstand ones), pull ups, crunches, etc.

Used to work out a lot at the gym but don't need to put on any more weight so just do maintenance stuff.

  • Do loads of upper body and core with free weights and Kettlebells, upright/bentover row, bench press shoulder press, biscep curls, barbell shrug, turkish get ups etc etc Found it helps me so much was at afan recently and could really feel my upper body holding me tight and absorbing shock I was on an 80m HT as well no pain at all totally recommend it. I do a lot of these to failure as well so don't mess about with high reps and low weights.
