I was posting last week about having the 53/39 on my trek 1000 replaced with a shimano 50/34 compact . I went out biking this morning and did a half century with my 8 speed shimano 12-25 at the rear. It was not near as bad as I had first thought . I had contacted LBS about getting me an 8 speed SRAM 12-28 to give me just a bit more low gearing, but it turns out that I dont need a rear cassette of that size, the road 12-25 is just fine after all :D phew.

I am going to have to lower my cadence or pay more attention to gear selection though , as I must have been pedalling a lot quicker than before and my legs are killing me.

Good effort Jimmy, you knew a Compact made sense all along!

Where did you go? I only did 30 miles yesterday and went up over Divis, quite straightforward although the view over Belfast was practically non-existant due to the lay of the land. Could see the Mournes in all their beauty though. 8)

On friday, I booked leave for today as the weather forecast said sunshine and 6 mph south westerly wind ......yeah right  , shoulda known better than to trust bbc weather forecast, grey as a badger, freezing cold and a wind right in your face. :x

I went from ards to carrickfergus castle and back .............my legs are still sore Gav.
