Brake disk locking on

I had a look on the park website but I can't see anything about it. I've recently refitted the front mechanical disk brake on the missus Kona Shred (Shimano BR-M465 with Avid Levers)
The brakes aren't working too well but part of that is that the pad needs more adjustment.

The problem I've got is that when you really yank on the lever the pad won't release from the disk and it locks it in place pitching you over the bars if your not lucky which wouldn't go down to great with her.

It did do it before which is why I took it off in the first place but I can't really let her out on a bike with only one brake so I've put it back on and I've still got the same problem, has anyone got any ideas what's going on? I've not had much experience with disks so it may be something very simple.

Many Thanks

Paul

    sticky cable?

can you get this to happen with the cable disconected from the caliper?

I think I did manage to get it to do it when it was off the bike. I'll try re-greasing the cable, that can't hurt.

Sounds similar to a problem I had a while back - some dirt worked its way into the pistons, which stopped them from releasing properly. If you know what you're doing, or are an adventurous mechanic, you might be able to fix it by stripping the brake down and giving it a good clean. I took mine to LBS - took a couple of visits to fix, but now works fine.

Cool, I'll have a play. I didn't realise untill I saw the park site that the disk rotor had to be aligned, I thought it just bolted on so I need to have a look at that too

If its a BB type then you may be moving the bearings out of their cups onto the flst in between which will lock it on, adjust the static pad out more and move the calliper over so the moving side doesn't have to come out so far.

    Had this with one myself.

Or could a pad be so worn its starting to come out the housing and jamming?
