Cwmcarn Wallride gone!

Hi all

I was up at Cwmcarn this weekend and the wallride has been removed, there is a nice berm there instead now. Does anyone know the story behind this? I hope it wasn't because people were hurting themselves on it, like what happened with the ladder drops.

    Well that sucks, didn't look like it needed maintenance either, so hopefully it's not another case of over zealous cotton wool treatment. Nothing on the Cwmdown website about it yet.

    it's been gone for about a month, not sure why. one day it was there next it was gone!!!

    The rumour is that some person has injured themselves on the drop offs. His father is trying to litigate aginst the Forestry Commission / Local Council.
    That is why the wooden fun items have been removed.
    IF this is true, it is a very sad day for our sport. Health and Safety gone mad. The sport has it's dangers and we must accept the risks involved and the injuries we can sustain.
    IF it is true perhaps fathers should not let their children play outside. I as a father of two encourage both to play hard and enjoy themselves. They can do whatever they want within reason. They both ride bikes but know if they fall off it wil be their fault. I would not let them consider a track like cwmcarn until they are really able to cope with it.
    I enjoy Cwmcarn and ride there at least once a week.
    All concerned in its maintainance and upkeep do a really good job. It's free to all with no carparking charges for visitors.
    IF the rumour is true it could lead to changes at more venues.

    Yes they are gone as I was there last month.

    Do you mean the berm that was after the three wooden jumps that goes into big concrete circle loop? that was there last month.

    The 3 drops have been gone for quite a while now, since sometime this summer, can't see why they would remove the wallride though, it's just a big berm after all (that i really wanted to ride next time I went)

    the 3 drop offs have been gone for nearly a year now as rumor has it a young lad was severly injured on them and his parents are trying to sue. this may have contributed to the wall ride being taken down and also to the boardwalk being widened and flattened at afan.

    i think they're just trying to protect themselves against future issues...

    Oh, I'm sorry guys but this is just f*ck*ng ridiculous, I mean, WHAT NEXT?!

    We all know the risks of the sport! It's pretty god damn obvious that if you drop off a 6 foot high piece of wood you may fall off!

    This has really pee'd me off (as you can probably see) but this is RIDICULOUS!

    Can nothing be done to get them put back in?
    Get everybody to sign a 'disclaimer' or such document?

    ....... I was looking forward to going to Cwmcarn on the Wales Trip in a couple of weeks.....

    Does anyone else feel my anger, sadness and disappointment in people?

    I hear you. Mountain biking is inherently dangerous. I wonder if in the future we'll all be riding sanitised trails......

    Nope certainly haven't offended me.

    I agree it is very daft to have removed fun, challenging trail obstacles from something that is classed as a freeride trail, the wallride was perfectly safe and easily avoidable if you didn't want to ride it.

    I hope the folk who run Cwmcarn can work with the health and safety idiots and get these things put back in place, and put some free back into these freeride trails.

    As I understand it the FC and various owning bodies are having quite a bit of trouble with red tape politics of late (Glentress big wallride still not open) so hopefully they will work it all out.

    i havent riden at cwm carn (stupoid i know, i only live 40 mins away.) but am goin soon, and was really looking forward to honing my skills on the small drop, the wall ride looked like seriouse fuin too! :x :x :x
    its ridiculs, im 14, if i hurt myself, i hurt myself, my falt, my stupitity, and my chice to do something potencialy dangerous, my dad will not sue, for he too knows its me, not the trail builder that hurt me, he will encourage me not to do something i cant do, but i know that anyway, and i use a mesure of riskassesment. people are warned of dangers, its obviouse any way! trails being cotten wooled is a stupid thing, if you cant do it, choose an easyer trail. i noticed, last time i rode whites level, that the board walk on goodwood has had sections put in on the inside of corners to make it easyer, and the jump/lump things have been sanatized, well, this anoyed, me, why? well, lwast time i rode there i droped my back wheel in the inside of one of the corners, my own stupid fault for not concentrating, but it added to the challenge, it made it more tricky, i hurt my self, it was part of the experiance, its a dificult trail, you EXPECT challange. On that very section there is a little stump sticking out of the trail wall on one of the tight corners, last time i was there i got taken out by it, completely mullered, ariel acrobatics sam pligrim would be proud off. i was in agony, i know other members of this very forum, have done the same on the same stump, but if they were to remove it, i would be so upset, it may have caused pain, but its part of the challange !
