I know its not sunday yet but i wont be able to post this in the morning, i am unable to make the services tommorow so i wanted to post this.
I would like to thank all those past present and future for their sacrifices in defending free speach and security of our nation, let those fallen rest in peace for they know they have commited themselves for the greater good, to all those families torn apart from dead or injured loves one god be with you to hold you up and support you through grief. We owe you a great debt to which we have no way of repaying so for this i say thank you, god speed.
They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old;
age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning,
we will remember them.

I agree. God bless them all, for what they did back in days when life was less forgiving.
However, it's a bit of an insult to their memory that our borders are so badly undefended today. Any halfwit with a few simple political tricks up their sleeves, uttering the word 'asylum' seems to be allowed entry to our paradise nation.
I know that both my grandads would turn in their graves if they knew that.

Rememberance Sunday is as much about remembering their purpose, as it is remembering the honourable dead.

They fought against intolerance as much as for our freedom and the UK is today a largely tolerant nation. That is their legacy.
We will remember them. You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.0 -
great idea for a thread.

Remember, it's not just the WW1 and WW2 soldiers who gave their lives so that we may live to be free...
The incredibly brave men and women serving in Afghanistan die on an almost daily basis giving their lives for something they believe in.
To me, at least, it's re-assuring to know that the nation is 'behind' the soldiers fighting wars. Support from back home.
I think there should be a proper heroes welcome for the men and women who come back, either re-patriated (God bless those who are) or who finish their tours.
My regiment got neither upon return from Iraq. But anyway, as 4XJ says, remember and honour them, as they died yesterday, so we may live today.
God bless them.Boo-yah mofo

How pathetic can you get mate? Of course people remember, did you watch or go to the Remembrance last night? Just because people don't post on a sodding forum doesn't mean they have no respect for the fallen. Wake up, you've got to realise the forum isn't a microcosm of Britain, Europe or the world for that matter. Jesus Christ.0 -
Always remember and not just once a year, not just for the dead but those 1000's more maimed for life. The lads and lasses out there are doing a hard job with the backing of the public just a shame the politicians are spineless.0

Errr, why :?: What's to be said that hasn't already been said?
Perhaps people look, read and think "Just what I would have said so no need".0 -

+1 to everything said so far...
Took my son to see Horrible Histories at Manchester Opera House last night. A play based on WW1. Some parts were quite moving, and really got you thinking.
10million deaths and 30 million wounded :shock:2014 Whyte T-129S0 -
Glad to see people still remember and still care.
The co-op near me is not selling poppies and when asked as to when they were getting some in my friend was laughed at by a pair of uncaring shop attendants, of course we wont go into their nationality, thats for another topic. This said friend also went in on another day to ask, and asked a different person and they didn't have a clue what he meant by the poppies!
Its a damn disgrace.
And on another note, nothing hits quite as hard as visiting all the war graves around france and belgium. Very moving, as is the last post when played under the arch with names of several thousand dead and unknown soldiers. The name and where it is escapes me as it was several years ago and i was only about 14.
We owe them the greatest of thanks. Words can't describe the sacrifice they gave well enough.0 -
I agree. Went to a cemetry in Bayeux a few years ago. It was a strange experience, but one not to be missed.
Found quite a few head stones for soldiers from my grandads regiment which was really nice in a strange sort of way2014 Whyte T-129S0 -

The Battle Of Passchendaele Ridge
240000 Allies lost and they only managed to advance 5 miles!

.................by the local firemen :!:
Been to the ceremony quite a few times as well - the museum is fascinating - horrifying in the scale of death and destruction :!:0 -
I went on a trip to see some of the battlefields and war graves of Belgium and France a few years back, took in the Somme Memorial and Menin Gate as well. The US has 11/11 has a public holiday for remembrance (Veterans' Day), seems like a good idea to me and I'd certainly sacrifice a different UK bank holiday for something that actually means something (to me at least).
I owe a huge debt of thanks to people who are/were a heck of a lot braver than me, both now and times long past. While I might not always agree with the reasons for the UK going to war, as soon as we do I'm behind our men and women 100%.0 -

This is the nail being hit right on the head, right before our very eyes.
Of course folk arent going to agree with men and women going to war but everyone should support those people. It makes the hugest difference. Morale has always been the biggest difference between winning and losing and knowing you're in the hearts and minds of the folk back home makes the heat and difficulty and danger and risk a little bit more bearable.
Something often forgotten is the fact that if these brave folk didnt volunteer to be put in hamrs way, then there is every chance you would have to go and do it, or your dad might, or you brother, son, daughter, sister, best friend...........
Its called sacrifice and its what we do for the country we love.0 -

Yup. I always feel sick watching protestors barracking troops when they come home, if you care that much **** off and harrass Gordon Brown, but that's pretty disgusting. I'm flat anti-war in both of our current ones but I'd still like to punch one of these little ****s in the face. I'm sure my grandad would approve, he might have fought for freedom but not for the freedom to be a w**k.Uncompromising extremist0 -

Not forgotten, ever.
And to those who serve and protect us right now in places and conditions we couldn't even imagine, thank you.
