I've been cycling and triathloning for a couple of years now, and I want to do a bit more training this winter than previously. Plus I fancy having a dabble at cyclocross racing, to help improve my fitness and my bike handling. So I'm looking for a cyclocross bike that can double as my winter training bike, with mounts for mudguards.

I was about to hit "buy" on this BMC CX02 bike:
http://www.evanscycles.com/products/bmc/cross-machine-cx02-2010-road-bike-ec020520
which seems to fit the bill pretty well.

Then my work re-opened their Bike2Work scheme through Halfords, and Boardman released there own CX bike:

It may not be quite as racy as the BMC, but through C2W it's going to be about 40% cheaper and payable in instalments. No brainer right?

So does anyone know anything about the Boardman CX? Has anyone seen one in the flesh? Will it fit the bill as a winter training bike an an occasion CX racer?

I have seen the Cube, looks nice. But it's not available through the C2W scheme, is more expensive than the BMC and doesn't look like it takes guards.

Maybe I'm looking for too much of a compromise, and should just get a decent winter training bike?
