I really don't know how much sleep I need now, I went to sleep at half 3 and woke up at half 8 and feel fine.

Don't take echinacea. The best review of its use is linked here.

At best, certain extracts may have a limited beneficial effect but the trial results are inconsistent. (Google echinacea + cochrane for the original research, the Cochrane website is down at the moment). Go and see your GP.

Anyone up at this time? I don't know what I should do if I should ring some out of hours place, but I don't want to end up wasting there time or anything. I've got an awfull painfull throat, allthough it seems my glands might be swolen slightly and some of the pain from round there, it's the worst pain swallowing I've ever had, I'm starting to feel weak and also my ears are effected too and finding it abit hard to breath.

Earlier this morning I also coughed some mucus or something up that was extreamly thick almost like rubberand had blood in it.

If you're coughing up sputum with blood in it I suggest you go to your GP.

+2 what somebody said earlier; if you're up at 2am typing, you haven't got flu.

The reason I was up is because I could not sleep. And why does no one believe in mild flu? If I had the propor flu I could get out of bed and sit typing at the computer, even if I was in pain and getting sick all over my keyboard.

Will...ring up GP..book the next available routine appointment - if it isnt this week then tell reception that your illness needs an appointment this week. then tell gp about the blood and fluey symptoms. Get checked out and be followed up by him if not improving..then no need to worry too much. At your young age blood unlikey to be anything rare or worrying but best go through it with GP.
Then get better and back on the bike

I'm amazed at your ave speed of 19+mph so soon after your last fluey bug.....I go back to square one after viral illnesses and wean back in

    good luck

i rang NHS Direct, then a nurse or something rang back told me a load of stuff to do to help, said it should go awya 5-10 days. I'm just going to stayu in bed for 3 days I think.

Maybe I recover quicker than normal, but 1 week and abit ago at home I did 3 30-50 mile rides and felt fine at that average and higher, I might have pushed abit harder as I was determined to get back to my normal fitness. I'm going to build up starting from 18 miles steadyish this time when I'm better and going to try improve my diet.

I went to the doctors, I've got infection in the upper tubes of my ventilation system, the doctor told me I should take another week off untill I start doing 60-80 miles, I asked when I can do very short rides like 18 miles, he told me the begenning of next week as apparently 18 miles is quite far. So, I'll have had 3 weeks off cycling which sucks but my knee appears to noy be hurting.

Stop moaning, that's nothing. I've not been able to ride my bike since 27 September due
to the 2 knee operations I've had since then. I've only just been able to ditch the crutches.
I'm probably about 25 years older than you, and you will get your fitness back quicker
than me. You've got nothing to worry about.

Just man up, rest, get well, and stop poncing about with this losing fitness malarky
Flippin' ek, just take the medical advice and forget about riding your bike until you're better.
I mean, you're not getting paid to ride the damm thing.
  • I bet your doctor cringes when he see's your due in for an appointment.

"I know its just a cold Doc, but two months ago I was averaging 20.2745mph over 73.11miles, with the first ten miles at 20.678mph average. I was super strong for the first 60.1 miles then I really struggled for the last 13 miles and this guy who I usually beat up the hills was ripping my legs off and the next day I only managed 36.3 miles at 19.687mph average and I've printed out my Garmin route to show you.
    Am I dying
