I made the silly mistake of going for shiney Hope ones. They work OK but not as good the Shimano Deore I had previously. I recently got a set of new XT wheels and the XT scewers are even better, not sure if its because they are XT or because they are new.
  • excuse my ignorance, but... what makes a skewer better? apart from looks and weight
    It`s changed a bit since...

I have had both shimano XT and superstar.

The superstar ones are cheap and lightweight and look bling.

But the shimano ones felt better quality when tightning.

I have taken both down afan and both have held up fine.
  • shimano are best because they have an enclosed cam, rather than the exposed ones like just about every aftermarket skewer. A bit heavier but much better.

that said the CB ones i've got in a box are pure sex...

I had a pair and a friend of mine had a pair that all liked to undo themselves as they please.

they are stiff to use and the handle isn't very hand friendly, they are also expensive.

    go with shimano.

they changed the design a bit for 2009 and mine are OK, I haven't found any issues with them as reported by others but the Shimano ones are just better to use. Easier to judge pressure, smoother action, less suspect to dirt ...

Halo bolt through - OK not QR, but cheap, quick(er than nuts) and light! Unless you really really need QR (and how often is that) then I'd stick with the Halo and its small amount of extra security.

Imo the Shimano skewers are the most durable and the best - not the lightest, not bling, but they work... for ages. My bike is in and out of the car a lot too, so reliable is best for me.

i don't like the shimano ones, the lever gets in the way when tightening them up on forks. I have some halo allen key ones but they come loose, i may have to get some threadlock. I always carry a multi tool with me 99.9% of the time i'm on a bike so they're not really a problem for me.

fit the shimano one on the other side then or change the position when closing the lever.

shimano are the best design ones out there.

i like to spin the lever when i'm tightening up, it's easier, and the lever on the shimano ones just gets in the way for that, or at least it does on my dirt jams (partly due to the design of the fork probably). No matter, my next two fork choices are both going to be maxle (got some pikes coming and i'm gonna get argyles). the solution to all of your QR/20mm problems ;) I still like the halo ones though, just put some threadlock on them.
