I'm looking for a full carbon, ultegra or sram road bike for a great value (less than $3,300).
1. How does a 2009 Scott CR1 Pro Compact ($2,300) compare to a 2009 Trek Madone 5.1 ($3,200)?
2. I ride mainly rolling hills but do a couple of rides a month in the mountains with very steep inclines. Compact or standard gearing?

My wife has the 2009 Madone 4.9 WSD compact - she absolutely loves it. I have a 2009 Scott CR1 Pro compact. I would say that the Scott is a racier bike with nimble handling but the Trek wins on comfort and build quality. It is a matter of taste whether you prefer the fluid monocoque frame/beefy bottom bracket of the Madone versus the carbon wrapped tubes of the CR1. Both are great bikes. I would go compact...we ride mailny rolling contryside and it works well, just losing out a bit on top end on the flat.0
