Hi all,
at the end of August i was unlucky enough to rear end a peugot estate at a junction, details were passed and i thought nothing more of it. i know the process has started as i was contacted not long afterwards by the other parties company for varification of my details, which i passed on.
my broker (a well known one advertising in the landy mags) has since then (in september) changed my insurance company as the policy was due for renewal. i have heard nothing since about the incident and wonder where i stand now as im no longer with the old policy? the transfer was all done through the broker - i got the letter stating they had found cheaper cover for my renewal and if i did not contact them to say otherwise they would just transfer the d/debit etc.(- oh and the broker was aware as i had contacted them at the time of the accident) so would they be likley to have passed this info on?, - or should i be telling the new company myself?
obviously i dont want to (ahem) rock the boat by phoning the company.....but cant help thinking i may get excess payment request just before xmas.
will they be lilkley to chase me for this even though i'm no longer thier customer? - and what about no claims bonus status?
any thoughts greatfully recieved.

In short, yes it's likely that they will still persue you for anything owing. If your broker was aware that there was a pending claim when he remarketed in September then he should have disclosed that. If he didn't then he's in the wrong (law of agency and all that). It's your responsibility to pass on to the broker any material facts that would influence the decision of a prudent underwriter (as I believe the statute goes).
As for NCB etc, I'm guessing that any reduction will kick-in from the next renewal as the claim was still open when the policy was renewed.0 -
