First off, why do you feel the need to upgrade? Anything letting you down?

WHy not wait until spring whe the nasty weather has gone and won't have worn new shiny parts down quicker!
  • Yeah and the January sales will be on, and you'll be able to ask for things at Chirstmas too

FCN 3 or 4 on road depending on clothing
FCN 8 off road because I'm too old to go racing around.
  • nothings wrong, just thinking, of turning it into a nice XC bike. i regret buying the bike now, as i would so have a saracen zen.

mostly eiither looking for more reliable parts, like as if id be upgrading a car really, make it lightier ect.

i clean my bike though, shoulldnt be a problem about wear and tear.

so how bigs this tight budget? because ive had the same sort of problem... you get a bike to get into it and now your into it you want to upgrade :? but seriously get rid and change of what Realy needs changing and then just replace stuff as it breaks. doing this will mean you can save some money and maybe buy a bike next year or something. yes you can fiddle around with buying new seatposts, handlebars, stems etc but at the end of the day its not worth the money you put into it.

how do you find the tyres? grippy or not? maybe first point of call, pedals are ok tbh but maybe some wellgo mg1's or some DMR V8's? but tbh if you really want to improve your bike the best thing you can do is a new pair of forks and your then looking at £180 for some toras or anything better.

if im right in guessing that you have recently got into the sport or maybe for a year i suggest you just do what i said at the beginning and just get out there and ride! eventually you will crash or break something and thats the point when that money you saved by not buying pointless upgrades comes in handy and then you can upgrade that part.

in terms of going into winter get some decent grippy tyres maybe some bontrager mud x or some maxxis medusa or another grippy tyre. get a crud catcher and also buy some warm winter clothes for you, a good coat, gloves, socks etc and i also found some riding glasses with a clear lense helps keep mud out of your eyes. then you and the bike are geared for winter :D go and ride and make sure you clean after everyride during winter!
  • Ok cheers for the tips well budget wise £500 so I'm thinking some new forks will do the trick, and clothing oo yeah il look into that. I looked up those tyres, pretty nice, seeing as my kendas are now just smooth.

Hopefully after saving a zen will be mine :)
