I needed a new lock, so after looking online decided to get the Kryptonite Fahgettaboudit Mini Lock RRP £89ish. Found it at Parkers online for £55. I nipped into the local Evans and looked at it, told the bloke about the Parkers price, he looked it up online and matched it. Result!

  • should ask him to beat it not match it, give you an incentive to buy from him.

I always ask for a better deal, even in high street shops I have found it an effective way to stop the wife making me go shopping.

Still a pretty good deal getting the price matched though.

Watch out for the small print on this deal, Evans will usually only price match if the item is in stock at the other cheaper retailer.

That said they price matched Shimano SLX disc brakes for me which were on offer at ribble with no quibbling. They've also done the same on a Campag veloce compact too.

Benfit of price matching if its in is I dont have to wait for it to be delivered if Evans have it in stock and I don't have to go to the post office to collect if its too big for the letterbox and my neighbour isn't in :)

That said, I also find my LBS does pretty good deals too. Just really an issue of asking what their best price is

in fairness a lot of online retaillers (cough CRC cough) will sometimes (i think) quote silly prices for things to get attention on their website when they don't have it in stock. which is annoying and misleading.
  • Yeah, the Evans fella checked online to see it was in stock then he matched it. £34 off the price made me pretty happy!
