  • TBH the ride was about a 60/40 split with, 60% hiking and only 40% biking. the way up was good, started at Glenridding and went up via Sticks Pass.
The way down into Grizadale Tarn was mega technical, i had to get off and walk vast parts of it. You had to be eaither mental and very technically capable (which i'm neither) to get down it ALL!

Planning on doing High Street next, whenever i get chance, so looking forward to that!

Ratty - Yeah man we got real lucky with the weather. It was quite warm but with a nice breeze to stop you from overheating. The skies were so clear and bright, you could see for miles around.
  • Great photos Louis. Particularly like first and last ones - superb.

I think that we (the forum members) ought to set a date for next spring and aim to get a few of us up there. What say you men (and ladies too, natch)?

Well I know one but it's hardly more rideable! It's a bit of an epic actually staring at Withburn (bottom end of Thirlmere) and climbing up to the summit ridge via Comb Crag, then riding the whole summit ridge towards the Dodds. You then drop down onto the old coach road which runs between Dacre and St Johns, then back down the Western shore of Thirlmere. About 23 miles total.

  • The route i took was about 15 miles. Started at Glenridding and went up to Stick's Pass. the climbed Stick's Pass and along the ridge to helvellyn Summit. Then rode adjacent to Striding edge and downhill to Grizedale Tarn. (Initially took the descent down to Thirlmere, which was an awesome descent, however we gt 2/3 down and realised it was the wrong way, so had to climb back up it all, what a drag!!)
Finally we followed the contours along grizedale and onto the road, back to Glenridding.

I'll look your route up on memory map, see what it's like

  • Epic ride. The view goes on forever it seems. Is there any trace of civilization other than the trail? The pics didn't show a Cell tower or power line. That is cool.

    Great Photos Louis,

I was up there in September, it was the first time I've been riding in the lakes.

I'm not familiar with the area so called into the LBS in Coniston for a bit of advice. We where advised to take the old coach road but we ran out of time and got bogged down on the Great Dodd (apparently it had been raining for weeks) so never made it.

Can it actually be done from that direction?

I'd be well up for trying again though.

Again Ben, that's slightly unfair. Given the fact that a) my employer's requirements pissed all over my plans, and b) nobody had the balls to stand up to their wives/mothers/girlfriends and commit to it, I don't think that I can be fairly accused of chickening out.
