New co-sponsor Farnese Vini - Abruzzi producer of wine, olive oil and grappa. Looking forward to their caravan participation :)
Alessandro Petacchi, currently riding with LPR Brakes, will switch to Lampre along with Lorenzo Bernucci, Alessandro Spezialetti and Daniele Pietropolli. Damiano Cunego and Petacchi will be the team's leaders. Two-time Giro d'Italia winner Gilberto Simoni is also being linked with a move to the team, which will be known as Lampre-Farnese Vini.

Hmmm, Cunego might need to keep his tattoo covered up if that's who they're signing.

what do lampre do? Long term sponsor so we should go easy on them...they've probably kept several hundred people employed.., I rate them 2nd longest in the sport behind Lotto (1985)...Fondriest and Abdu rode in Lampre 1993-1994 ..but they are defnitely Italy's rock racing equal now.
  • I think Amore&Vita-Fanini have been around since 1990, so they are the 2nd longest team in the sport, although many people will not see this as real sponsorship, for we all know the Vatican is a very special kind of corporation.

As for Lampre and pro cycling, they actually debuted as Colnago-Lampre in 1991. The team included two promising riders, Bortolami and Svorada and also a moustache-clad Pole who had originally escaped his country to ride with Saronni a few years before: Lech Piasecki.

Is Lampre Italy's rock racing right now? Oh well, appearances are certainly against them but you have to remember the Lampre bunch are old-fashioned sponsors: before anything else they want popular cyclists. They don't care about Petacchi's problems and they ain't trying to give him a 2nd chance: Petacchi is a big name, period. Let's hire him, and let him bring his buddies, no problem. Let's get as much exposure as possible, period.
Same for Cunego, they couldn't care less about his tatoo, they're giving him a lot of money because he's by far the most popular cyclist in Italy right now, he's so popular, even among people who don't follow cycling.
And that's why they had given VDB a contract back in 2001-2002, even though the poor thing couldn't complete a single day of racing for them. By the way, around that time, Lampre's doc was called José Ibarguren...
