It's about 20 minutes from Wrexham by car. It's an easy ride, but is great fun. You can make it as hard as you like by riding it absolutely flat out.

    Dunno about staying, sorry.

hi, local lad here: happened across this searching for something else but thought i'd stick me oar in!

    A. wxm-llandegla: don’t drive! you can get some nice varied riding between the two on your bike. Link up the various bridleways, old railway tracks, fireroads and disused quarries with short sections of backroads, you can then also travel by train and avoid the (excessive IMO) car park charges as well.

I go one way via bersham, nant mill, new brighton and gwynfryn quarry, another via bwlchgwyn quarry, nant-y-frith, brymbo and moss valley. Do that + the red/black at the trail centre and you've got my Sunday ride (so past a couple of pubs with decent beer and roaring log fires on the way back then).

    B. I'd consider staying in llangollen instead of wxm if your down for a whole weekend or longer, its no further to llandegla than wxm, a bit more tourist/outdoors orientated and you can ride straight out to the hills, cant make a recommendation for accommodation but theres plenty of B&Bs (and a youth hostel if yr on a budget).

For anyone making a long journey to visit llandegla i'd recommend extending your ride outside the confines of the forest, theres various xc routes over the moors to the south towards Llangollen, west to llantisillo, and north to the southern clwydians. It can be packed out in the trail centre but you'll hardly see a soul a couple of miles away. Its off-piste though so exercise appropriate caution……I’ve biked round here most of my life and still ended up off the track and stuck in a swamp as it was getting dark last week..

Buy OS Explorer sheet 256 before you go and spend some time planning a route is the best advice I can give.

(Ps agree with yeehaa that llandegla is good to ride fast and I’m not usually much of a speedster)
