KMC Z510s chainb link

Hi
Hope you can help with a chaini linking question.
I have a new Z510s chain which comes with its own joining link. The joining link has two components- a side plate with two pins, and a side plate with two holes in it to receive two pins.
All good so far.
The question is - should the pins of the joining link pass through rollers of the chain links it connects? Or do the joining pins just pass through the side plates of the links only and not the rollers (by rollers I means pieces of metal that spaces the links through which a pin passes through).
I have tried the KMC website but this is not the best.
Hoep this is clear!
Thanks

when fitted it should look just like any other link.
