Stunning looking track, especially the surroundings. Alot of money has gone into that. You can see Bernie's point when he complains about the state of some of the European circuits like Silverstone and Spa

oh yeah, absolutely, it doesn't look like even the sand was bought in on the cheap! It looks, on another planet.

If you look through rose tinted specs, you can see that F1 still needs tracks like Silverstone that are surrounded by muddy fields full of pissed brummies in tents, same can be said of all the European tracks like Spa, Monza and I supposed places like Inter Lagos, which sits on a hill above Sao Paulo's Slums, but places like this and the GP in Malaysia blow your head off. They are stunning and perhaps Silverstone does really need to take a long hard look at how it can make things better.

bugger silverstone. Donnington should've been given time to sort their shit out and if it had to go back to silverstone for a couple of years, sobeit, but to take the whole thing away from them, the huge contract, is a big blow to the economy locally.

Yeah but only if Silverstone agree to fill in for a year or two but they won't agree to any contract less than 10. Britain, loses its GP because a long term contract goes to another middle eastern oil rich country with no hope of getting it back for an age, hence an agreement for another long term deal will go to Silverstone. Donnington pissed on their chips by messing Bernie Ecclestone about, and to be fair, they have made complete arses of themselves.

The thing is Abu Dhabi's circuit was paid for by their government as were a few of the far east/middle east tracks IIRC

No way would a European government be able to cough up the wallet raping expense of something like the Yas Marina circuit. (reportedly £800 Million)

Silverstone is a great circuit, but the problem lies with the paddock & access to the circuit, hopefully funding can be found to improve these issues, it would be a sad loss to lose the British GP

Donnigton had little chance of getting the funding & the circuit finished in time even if it did find the funding, A complete cock up by Bernie & Donnington there, no change for Bernie there then....

  • Looking at the track I can expect a long boring grand prix with little overtaking (like most new tracks these days). You can knock Silverstone and Spa all you want but at least these are proper tracks where things can happen

yeah, that's them trying to safeguard themselves at the expense of donny. I think that they should've been given a 3-5 year deal, and then the donnington contract (17 yrs) which bernie himself even extended, should run after that, giving time as we know how long it takes in this country to build things. Other than that, someone bring the scrawny little bas.. to local towns & we'll hang the swine!

I think one of the most interesting comments yesterday was about the marshals at the event.
IIRC 300 of them were from the UK.
