How do I change a single speed sprocket?

Hi Guys,

I have a new Genesis SS with a 16t sprocket. How do I get it off and change for an 18t one? Do I need any special tools? And where would I get the 18t from? CRC sell SS sprockets, but I don't know if they are the right ones...

Any help will be much appreciated.

Cheers,

If you have a freewheel on your wheel then you'll need one of these

A freewheel will be close to the spokes and when you take the wheel out of the frame there will be four notches where the above tool locates. When getting replacement freewheels don't scrimp on price. Shimano or White Industries are the only worthewhile items, White Industries if you're feling flush.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.
  • Yup, one of those tools, and a vice and some scaffolding pipe for leverage....them thar freewheels screw up real tight.
For a replacement have a look at the trials stuff...tartybikes is a good source.
WI is great but I have also had Try-all...very good stuff and very loud freewheel 8)
