Are all brake discs the same thickness?

I'm having ongoing problems with the Avid Elixir R rear brakes that came on my Boardman Pro HT - no matter how much I fiddle with them I still can't get them set so they don't rub an unreasonable amount.

Looking around this seems to be a common complaint with the R's but there doesn't seem to be a conclusive way of fixing the problem..

What I would like to know is: are some brake discs thinner than others? Ie. could I change my disc to give me more pad clearance, even if it's just a mm?

Come to think of it.. would that even work? Or will the pads just self-adjust inwards and be as tight as they were before?

take then to a proper bike shop and get them set up correctly.

dont forget that every time you move the caliper you will need to bed the pads in.

and only then will you have reduced rub.

but to answer your question they are all about the same.
