Hello All,

I guess I'm just putting this on here as a warning to anyone who rides along canals in Winter...

Last night I was ripped off my bike in the early evening and assaulted by 4 hooded youths until I let go of my bike and they ran off with it into a housing estate. I chased after them shouting at the top of my voice but no one helped and they disappeared into the estate. The police have taken all the details and such but there is a very low chance that I'll ever see my beloved bike again.

I've only had it 3 months and loved riding along the Manchester to Ashton canal every day for my 10 mile commute to work and back. I tend to see about 4 other bikers who are riding top bikes and would hate for it to happen to them too.

Also this is a suggestion for anyone like me who thinks that this wouldn't happen to them - get insurance! When I bought my bike I got a kryptonite lock that comes with a years free insurance and I thought no one will manage to get the bike off me when I'm riding it, and once I've locked it up it's covered. But now I've learnt the very hard way - £800 lost.

Here's a photo if in the very unlikely off chance that anyone reading this from the Manchester-Ashton area ever see's some scally lads riding a bike that they probably haven't paid for.

Thanks for reading, and I hope if you haven't got it already, this has inspired you to get some insurance.
