my parents are investing some money towards a road bike for me at christmas and i have a max budget of 500 notes to spend, i was thinking of getting a carrera from halfords , i have a carrera mtb and i know that holds up well.

i will be using the bike to cycle a 4km route and cycling a 20km route both will be done atleast once a week, both fairly up and downy steepest hill to climb will be a clim of 200m in 80m

what will be good for sub 500?

thanks

if you're going the Halfords route, the Vanquish is a well-specced bike for a bit less than £500....

Hi FCJ, it might be worth hanging on for the sales. I got my first road bike last December from CRC.

    It's a BeOne Storm 1.0. It cost me £499 reduced from £899.

    Just an idea like.................

    Cheers

  • My mate has had the carrera Vanquish for about a year now, it seems to be holding up well apart from the gears playin gup a bit now and then.
But dont just settle for the price of other bikes, i got a cube Ariel for £520, down from something like £600.
  • i dont need to specificly go the halfords route it just seems to be one of the easiest
  • dont go halfords they lower the spec.... go to a independant bike shop.
