Worn rim

Due to a pannier rack restricting my brakes and thousands of wet miles i've worn through the wear-marker on one side of my rear wheel.
I've adjusted it now but how far can I push it til I need to replace the rim?
Also, is it worth replacing the rim or just getting a new wheel?
My girlfriend's advice? 'Why don't you turn it round so the other side wears?'

If the hub and spokes are ok, I'd just get a new rim.
    FCN 2-4.

"What happens when the hammer goes down, kids?"
    "It stays down, Daddy."
    "Exactly."
  • I have done the same thing with my trek hybrid. iIts my own fault for not using the front brake enough
  • I have had a strip of the rim blow off. When pumping the tyre up, only got to 25psi. I would replace sooner than later. If it’s a newish and expensive wheel, just replace the rim. Get a quote for a new wheel and supply and fit a new rim.
