Hi,

I'm after some new wheels to replace the Alex Rims DA22s on my bike.

I've searched on here and loads and loads of threads came up, of which I had a read through.

I reckon I've narrowed it down to Fulcrum Racing 5s or some Shimano RS30s.

The Fulcrum 5s seem to be well received. I can't find much information on the RS30s, they weigh a bit more than the Fulcrums. Anyone know if they're any good?

My Budget is around £150, and they will be used for general riding/commuting, club runs and time trialling (until I can get a TT bike).

Thanks

Cheehee

Why not go for a hand built pair? Roadace are doing some very good deals at the moment.

handbuilts for such a diverse group of requirements. You don't want to lose a spoke and not be able to cycle home... It happens!

something fairly aero but not massively deep, maybe a cxp33 or open pros, on whatever shimano hubs you can afford, with some nice bladed spokes.

Hand built or factory built, you can still lose a spoke if your gears are not maintained and derallieur goes through wheel. Bladed spokes cost more tro replace, and good luck to finding spares!

TT season is over, buy robust for winter, save for 6 months for your TT wheels :D

I'm using my 10 year old rigid MTB for the winter months. I'll have a looksie at some handbuilts.

I've seen some on Ribble and obviously the site you linked to. Any other places I could check?

I've Shimano RS30's on my Cervelo S1. I'm really pleased with them for the price. I can only compare them to Mavic's basic CXP22 over which they're a huge improvement in ride quality (and weight of course).

Don't think you'd go far wrong with them unless others know better?
  • See Harry Rowland who will built based upon requirements and price. I think you would get a nice set for £150. Do a search on here for his details. Very nice guy. I have "only" bought 2 sets both of which are superb and slightly different to the crowd but not much.

Cos i'm really impatient, I've ordered a set of Shimano RS30s from Ribble. £130 all in.

My choice was heavily influenced by Jay T so if I don't like them I can blame him

I'll let you know what I think when they arrive.

    Thanks
