BR slow, slow, slow on Firefox

I've always found BR loads up really slowly, I've been through IE6, 7 and 8 in fairly quick succession and on the whole I've found IE8 to be really good.
Until the last couple of days when it's started crashing at random times, several times a day.
Well, you can only ignore the firefox fanboys for so long, so I thought I'd give it a try. 10 mins trying out a few of my regular websites & it seems fine, hard to spot any vast improvement over IE, & there are already one or two little things in the interface where I prefer IE8.
Then I tried BR, and I couldn't believe how slow it is! I'm typing this in IE as I don't have all day.
Anybody got any hints on how to speed firefox up? Or stop IE8 crashing (no, I don't have any add-ons in it)

I'm interested in hearing peoples tips on this aswell. I use Firefox at work and it's fine, but on my laptop at home, BR takes ages to load. It just seems to be this site that's a problem on it though.0

I've never got on with third party browsers at all. I've tried the lot, Firefox, Safari, Opera, Chrome ( :x ), and where they have started off ok they seemed to get slower and slower as time went on.
IE8 is the best I've used. I think there is a bit of geek snobbery in evidence with a lot of this pc stuff.0 -
The AdBlockPlus add-on in FF speeds things up - less time spent propping up pop ups.0

CAMPAGNOLO - Proof that there really is a God
Interesting juxtaposition...
But I'm inclined to agree with you on the snobbery front, it's the same in so many areas - if something starts to get a reputation among the in crowd (a computer, a gruppo , even, in the case of Apple, every product produced by an entire company) people start to identify with it, will defend it to the hilt against all comers, and are forever welded to the belief that it is better than the rest. There has to be some interesting psychology going on here, but in the meantime, I just want a browser that works!0 -

Where do you get this add-on?
When the pages are loading I get text in the bottom left of the screen saying various things along the lines of "reading from google analytics" (not sure that's the exact wording, but you get my drift). I assume this is why it is so slow?0 -

Tools>add-ons....and I'll have a quick look to see where ABP is from there....0 -

IIRC, you have to also grab a list of standard ads for blocking (you can add addresses after that - it's just to get you started) but that should become evident as you install it.0 -

Thanks, that seems to have done the trick0
