Just spotted this on wiggles home page ...
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/cycle/7/Lightweight_RD_-_Rear_Derailleur/5360040339/
With the dura ace version falling in at a 'low' £136, Record 11 @ £220, and SRAM red @ £209, are people really going to dig deep into their pockets to purchase this for £799.99??
It seems totally crazy! Imagine if they released a crankset...

I know someone that has one on his bike. When I say know, I do of course mean know to say hello to :oops:0
-
Wow, 800 quid to save 64g, you'd be better off cutting the sleeves off your jersey0
-
How do they make it compatible for both Shimano and Campag? It doesn't look like they do two versions, and I thought the indexing/cassette spacing is different which is why you can't mix and match both brands?0
-
Shimano only, it says in the questions partwinter beast: http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr34 ... uff016.jpg

for £800 I'd want it to peddle the bike for me too.
There is bling, then there is super bling, then there is stupidly expensive bling but this is way out in a league of its own.0 -

The question is specifically about Super Record 11 speed.
The product description says:
"Shimano 9/10-speed compatible
Campagnolo 9/10-speed compatible "
- whiich is why I wonder how it can be compatible with both?0 -

Not bad.....when you compare it to some vintage simplex rear mech, which sell for £700bagpuss0
-
Lightweight are well known for your daft prices. They're wheels are around £2500 a pair, that a grand more than the very good Zipp 404s. Whoever buys ths stuff clearly has too much money! Probably city bankers trying to spend their bonuses0
-
Correct me if I'm wrong, but regarding rear mechs and cassettes, isn't it the shifter and cassette that matters? (obviously keeping same number of gears!)
Surely it's the amount of cable the shifter pulls/releases that moves the mech?? The same going for front mechs.
I stand to be corrected though
Oh, and the guy I know that has one isn't a city banker. I would buy one if I had the money, but then I'm a sucker for shiney bikey bits (from my days as a mountain biker).0 -

Ok, I stand corrected rd  , just went back to have another look at the LW, and I have to agree, the SR one is SO much nicer!
Ignore what I said, I'm starting to save for SR :oops:0 -

About £800 more actually, or just over £500 if you've got a Wiggle platinum account!
However, you can't really compare them with Zipps, they're like chalk and cheese. Regarding the derailleur though, I couldn't imagine ever wanting to spend £700 on one, no matter how well it shifts.0 -
redddraggon wrote:I wouldn't buy one of these mechs even if I had loads of money, as I doubt they shift anywhere near aswell as SRAM/Campag/Shimano.
Super Record is where it's at:
agreed - gorgeous bit of kit!0 -

Imagine tipping of & grinding it's carbon niceness into the Queen's Highway? That'd hurt more than the loss of your top layer of hide.0

1p's worth of change out of 800 quid? I've got complete bikes that haven't cost me that much!
And I thought Tiso rear mechs were expensive....

On the subject of insanely expensive kit, would anyone pay £440 for a jacket?

It might be more cost effective to move to Spain for the winter.0 -

Fark me!!! I saw some bloke was wearing that top in a Campognolo advert in ProCycling and thought 'Hmm, might have a look for that - nice bit of kit'. Changed me mind quite rapidly.0 -
Talking about Lightweight and how expensive their wheels are - I know someone with a set of their wheels AND a set of Campag Boras.
He isn't a banker though, he's a teacher0 -

Yeah but you don't see Campag getting loads of flak about their expensive clothing like Rapha doExpertly coached by http://www.vitessecyclecoaching.co.uk/
