I'm after a GPS unit (like a Garmin). That i can upload mapped rides onto (from say mapmyride) and then follow the route on screen when out on the trail. It will be used for mostly offroad trails. Is there such a unit around?
The garmin's dont like they have a map on the screen that directs you, like say a car sat nav would.
Ideas? Cheers

If you do a search in the buying advice section for GPS there are a whole load of results, have a flick through and see if anything grabs you
Once you narrow it down a bit it'll be easier to see the pros and cons of them.

ah but they do - I have an Edge 305. You upload your route into training centre, convert it to a course (drag and drop) and then download the course to your edge. It will give you a trail, tom tom like (turn left, turn right 5m) instructions. The only thing missing is a contextual map, i.e. your trail map overlayed on top of a street map.
tbh when you are cutting through made up forest trails you don't need these. stick your trusty os map in your bag if you want detailed maps.
the 605, 705 have mapping, but the bats don't last as well, which on a "days" riding for me is very important.0 -
I have a 605 and it has a map on it which you just follow the route - I had mine on for over 8 hours and it had over half of its battery life still to go0

does the 605 support cadence and HR?0

Already looked at the Viewranger, and it looks spot on but... i've got an iphone and not a nokia. I know there is something similarish on the iphone, but it zaps the battery. So it wont last for a full 8 hour all day epic. So i think either a 605 / 705 or satmap active 10. I believe you have to buy the maps separate for all these units?Mountain Bike: Yeti ASR - http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=12751671

I don't know what it's like, but Memory Map has brought out a Memory-Map enabled GPS system.0
