Sorry if this has already been done, couldnt see anything about it in the search etc.

My new bike has an M4 up front and a Saint at the back. The Saint is not too bad but the M4 could do with a bleed.

I have an Avid Juicy bleed kit complete with everything it came with, even a half full pot of DOT Fluid. Question is, can I use this kit to bleed the Hope brakes? I know they are bled in a slightly different way but as far as I can tell, it *should* work. Seems like I have everything I need already

Or have I missed something?

wont work other than the fluid in the Hopes.

just get some hose on the hope bleed nipple and away you go.

Remember to close the bleed nipple before returning the lever then reopen it again when u squeeze the lever.

Its a faff but it does work.

Don't need a bleed kit for Shimano brakes (I didn't have one for my XTs anyway, just some clear pipe). Shimano brakes run on mineral not DOT fluid, don't mix them up or you'll kill the seals.

How long have you had the DOT fluid? It doesn't last long once openned as it's hydroscopic (think that's the right word, been a long time since I did my degree) meaning it'll absorb water from the air as well as air. This will make it very difficult or impossible to effectively bleed the brake. Get some new sealed brake fluid. Get rid of the old stuff properly, i.e. not down the sink, as it's pretty nasty stuff.

  • you can get clear pipe for shimano from halfords... get some small diameter car washer hose for a few quid.
