Looking for my first road bike.... on a budget

I'm looking for a road bike between 54cm - 57cm. However I'm on quite a tight budget to get a road bike, £250 max.

Which brands should I look into for this price range? Will I get anything decent for this price?

    Look for second hand - you may get a new Carrera on sale at Halfords, which are decent enough bikes, but for £250 you could pick up something 12-18 months old witrh little use that originally cost £500
    Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos

    My first road bike was a Carrera Virtuoso in excellent condition which I picked up on ebay for £156. That's where I'd look.
