Wow... there is an absolute gold mine of information linked off that article:

This fact sheet has enough stats for about 1000 flame wars:

Pedal cyclist collisions and casualties in Greater London (PDF 256KB):

    Table 12 is fascinating.

    Oooh, goody! I love statistics!

Scary one in there though; in 2007, 11 out of 14 cyclist fatalities happened when the cyclist was 'going ahead', i.e cycling along minding his own business and not attempting any kind of manoeuvre.

So basically I deduce by all this that if you a male aged 25-29, commuting to work on a clear summer's day and passing a t-junction - BEWARE!

I know this isn't at all funny but am I reading it right that in 2007 1 cycling fatality was caused by a head-on collision with.... another bicycle?!

What I noticed in this is that the under 16 incidents dropped, I#d guess that this was due to a drop in cycling in that age group.

I don't know about 16-24 but the trend line seems similar.

You can see the effect of the congestion charge in Central London, which is the only part that cycling has actually increased.

That indeed is what table 11 shows. I'm still trying to imagine the scenario - perhaps the cyclist was knocked into the path of oncoming traffic - the ''conflict'' would initially have been cyclist v cyclist. Just guessing :o

Cracks me up Boris has disbanded the special police team with expertise on HGVs (which have killed MANY cyclists), but has spent millions on scrapping bendy buses which have killed NO cyclists.

What a plonker, a dangerous one at that.

Particularly after his recent experience of apparently poor HGV maintenance that was caught on CCTV!
