Interchangeability of chainrings?

I've got a set of truvativ cranks (says Comp-G on them), a set of shimano square taper cranks and an almost brand new shimano octalink deore crankset. Can I put the deore chainrings onto the truvativ cranks? If not (why not?) can I put the chainrings onto the shimano square taper cranks (they're another model).
I would prefer to use the truvativs as they are in excellent condition but the chainrings are worn, and if I could use the shimano chainrings on them then I'd have a practically new crankset.
All three are 9 speed setups.

Quite often yes, if the BCD and 'speed' is the same. Sometimes tabs on the chainring may not fit on the spiders. Only thing to do is try it.0

The middle chain ring overlaps the tabs by less than 0.5mm so a little bit of filing and it shouldn't be a problem. The outer chain ring fits on fine.
Is it one of those things that if it fits, it'll work fine? As long as there isn't different ring offsets from the crank mount, I don't see it being a problem but thought I'd check.0 -
Offsets can be a problem - I have used thin spacers before. And files!
Yep, is just a case of experimenting, as so many combos out there.0
