Shimano hydro Dcl's compatible with other brand calipers?

Any one use calipers other than shimano with there Dcl's. The banjo fitting on the avid juicy is the same as the shimano and LX lever set is only £20 on ebay thinking about giving it a try. Any thoughts?
I know they are a marmite thing but i got on with them well - until my bike was nicked - i just can't get used to the conventional shifters.
