Ritchey WCS 4-Axis carbon stem

Have some moneys in paypal to spend so am thinking of buying some Ritchey bars and stem...
I am thinking of getting the WCS 4-Axis carbon stem, this:
http://www.ritcheylogic.com/dyn_prodfamily.php?k=114831
And the WCS carbon flatties..
Even though the stem is OS and in the MTB section, it's listed as a road stem in many places. My question is, apart from it being gorgeous, will it be safe on the XC racebike. Won't be any heavy drops etc, but dont want it giving out on me...
Anyone been using one/thoughts?

hmmm dunno could be a bit dodgy. Personally if you are absolutely going to keep both wheels firmly on the ground at all times it could be ok.
* disclaimer: My opinion is not based on any scientific fact what so ever!0 -
What do you weigh.
And most carbon stems actually weigh more then aluminium stems. They just proved extra stiffness for sprinting, and maybe a bit of vibration damping. Although I agree with you, it does look very nice.0 -
A lot of money for not even a superlight stem.
Have a look at this:

Problem with all that exotic rubbish is its just Taiwanese junk. If I was going to get a carbon stem, it would definitely be the ritchey. Would never buy exotic. Unreliable. Looks rubbish as well.0

I hope that was meant to be funny.0

I have some exotic rigid carbon forks and they are great. Well built and look awesome. they use the same design and manufactured in same factory as other "better" brands
would not hesitate to recommend them to any one.0 -
I agree SS - not very lightweight - I just like the way it looks...
Been checking around also for something white..
Both the Ritchey wet-look stem is lighter and so is the FSA OS-115
May not end up with anything as I am *ahem* severely suffering from upgrade fever when the stuff I already have is great :oops:0 -
How ab out a Extralite stem?

The Tune stems at Posh Bikes are a bit different too.0

The Tune stem is lovely but only comes in 25.4 flavour!
Bet it would look great in blue on the build.
Hope shall be getting my blue ultimates shortly! 8)0 -

I'm the proud owner of both....(apologies for the size of the pics)
Nope they're not the lightest
Nope, they're certainly not the cheapest, but I love the look of them, the WCS colour scheme matches the WCS colour on my bike so there was never really going to be any other choice for me....

I've also got both & they have held up fine to my xc riding, I can get a slight creak if I stand & Sprint really hard.
As said it's not the lightest as it's a carbon wrap over a aluminium skeleton but as it looks so good I can live with the 30g over an Extralite stem.0 -
Hows tricks Cheesey.
The Ritchey stuff is the dogs - I've got the bars, but the alu stem not carbon, a bit too on the heavy side for a c/f stem I think!0 -
I have one of the carbon WCS stems ;-)
It's heavier than my WCS V3 stem of the same length but it looks about ten million times sexier
Extralite stuff has a tendency to be unreliable at times...0
