What are people’s thoughts on using or wearing knee pads for MBT? Also which ones would you recommend on a small price range.

I'm a newcomer back into biking. After a few small falls off the bike I got some 661 Kyle Strait pads. Just fit and forget. Really comfy so you don't notice you're wearing them at all.

£40 well spent compared to years of pain from a busted kneeCool, retro and sometimes downright rude MTB and cycling themed T shirts. Just MTFU.

Really depends on what your price range is but the veggie knee pads soak up most impacts, Dainese full knee shin are nice80 x 80 is not enough pixels!!!!

I generally only wear knee/elbow pads at trail centres (or if it's cold ), it's a personal choice whether you do or don't - you'd be foolish to make up your mind based on what others do. I don't find them very restrictive (661 evo's in my case) but I do notice they're there from time to time.
You could probably do permanently disabling damage to your knees/elbows with a freakish low speed crash on easy terrain and similarly survive a high speed crash with just a bruised ego, it's up to you whether you think your riding needs pads (and how much the potential consequences of a crash mean to you in terms of what compromises you're prepared to make to mitigate them).0 -
Cheers guys....
So most people use them then lol

Just brought 661 Kyle Straits recently, very good but not that cheap, available as a subscription gift with MBR at the moment I think though.Santa Cruz Chameleon

I rate the 661 KS knee pads as well, I use them with veggie wrap shin pads and feel pretty well protected without too much restriction ov movement. I've frequently got up from a spill or pedal slip or whataever and thought "I'm glad I have these on". I think they've kept a fair ammount of blood on the inside which I would otherwise have lost, and kept me on the bike for longer. A good invenstment IMO.
Got a spare set of knees and shins (a bit used, not too stinky) if you're on a budget. Size large.0 -

Yup, my wife broke her elbow at about 5mph on the nice wide, smooth Lakeside Way at Kielder.

Just bought a pair of 661 Chicken wing elbow pads (CRC £22) after 22 years MTBing without any protection. nasty cut and stitches during lat Coed trip convinced me. Tried our last week and not restrictive at all, just feels like wearing a bandage.
Knee pads (661 KS) coming soon as free sub offer from MBR.vmgscot0 -
I'm leaning towards shin pads rather than knee pads myself, but then I ride flats and keep getting cut up on the peddles .
The only other impacts I tend to get is on the face (over bars, head is the first thing going to hit the ground ).0 -

This was me yesterday. :-( Except worse
came off my bike on some cobbles... I think I braked and teh front wheel bounced into a cobble and then over I went. Right elbow, head, face, knees all took their bit for the team.
I had (obviously) my helmet and knee pads on, but no elbow protection. Knees and head just fine but I've bashed my elbow bad enough I won't be riding anywhere for a week at least and I've got a nice bit of road rash on my forehead as well.
The elbow hurts like chuff and I'm well pissed off as I was really looking forward to me and my lad going to Gisburn tomorrow.
next thing I buy will be some elbow pads for me and him and possibly some shin guards. It honestly ain't worth the pain guys... trust me.
I might even consider one of those rather silly semi full-face helmets now.Cool, retro and sometimes downright rude MTB and cycling themed T shirts. Just MTFU.
