That's torn it

That was the quickest and least satisfying £45 i've ever spent but the Physio did confirm that i've torn the lateral ligament on the right knee which would explain the pain and sudden onset of ghey every time I get on the bike

Still she did say I was very flexible and toned and will you please put your pants on now it's not that kind of massage :D

We talked about stretching and the fact that I hold it with about the same regard as voodoo and witch craft she then went on to explain my hamstring pain lower backache and neck ache were all because of my lack of movement over the last month, seems my twice daily commute has been kindly providing my old body with a much needed stretch

During the process which I should add is all new to me both my legs were bent every which way which all seem good and flexible as I said until we got to the offending knee which when push in a particular pops and generally looks a bit rag doll like, this is a bad thing it would seem, there was also some confusing looks from the Physio as to why I wasn't in "more" pain

After a short explanation of the term "nails" which by the way only raised one eye lid, she concluded that I had in fact fooked my knee and would be off proper biking for some time, that's not a term I like, I prefer the more precise one or two weeks reply.

Alas I'm looking done in any serious way for the next 2-3 months :cry:

Still I can ride my London commute just so long as its flat and no more that 3 miles each way, I also have to ice the knee frequently and until i'm back up to speed it's stretching exercises for me.

One last thing the ultra sound treatment on my knee was unable to tell if its a boy or girl

Have you any idea how long it is going to take me to get all the coffee out of my keyboard?

I have decided from this weekend to do the Sun Salutations from my Yoga class 5 times every morning. Hopefully that will improve my flexibility (as well as impress my incredibly attractive Yoga teacher).

Bummer. Follow the advice and let it mend. My wife didn't after being diagnosed with something very similar and it went from a tear to a full rupture, which meant full blown surgery and some pretty big scars. Plus 4 months off of all exercise and she's never fully recovered.

There's MTFU'ing and then there's MTFUing by realising something is properly wrong and its time to get help. Glad to see you're enough of a Man to do the latter

    +1 :lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

Seriously though mate, take it easy. I've been through several bouts of tendonitis in both knee's and a full recovery takes time and patience but is worth it in the long run.

We talked about stretching and the fact that I hold it

If it's very small, they will try to stretch it. You'll have to let go of it first though.

Don't worrry: it's unlikely they will pull it off.

I stretched/knackered the lateral ligaments in my right knee. My knee swelled up to twice its normal size. apparently ligaments take longer to heal than bone. I still don't have proper stability in the joint years later - especially when the knee joint is locked out.

My physio actually recommended cycling as a rehab activity as it builds up quads & hamstrings to keep joint stable. This only makes sense once you are healed & swelling has gone. I kept throwing my knee out at my kung fu class because I thought I had recovered & then found just the right movement to screw it up again. Now I am very careful & wear a knee support with steel springs down the sides whenever I do exercise that involves unpredictable movement.

Its incredibly frustrating to have this injury, but try to be patient while you recover.

I mean it sucks, but you are moaning a bit about this time 'off the bike' put a peg on to rest your bad knee, fit a smaller chainring and cycle everywhere one legg-ed...

Sorry to hear about this. What timescale did the physio give for healing? 2-3 months seems pretty short so I guess thats just a rest period?

You hold stretching in the same light as voodoo.. well, it is a black art that will lead you to success.
