Thinking about some new wheels, around £350-400 mark and thinking about Campag Zonda 700c's?

Anybody got any thoughts or opinions on 'em?

Yeah, I got them on the strength of a number of forum members' comments on here:

They've been great so far - noticeable improvement from my Racing 7s, no problems at all, even after I hit a pothole hard going 30mph+ on a descent - took it in their stride. And the campag freewheel click is present and correct after six months' use or so (they were originally surprisingly silent).

I own those exact 2 sets of wheels too! ...and the Zonda's are 'smack you in the face' better, but they would be. I shopped around at £300 and haven't regretted getting them at all, have ridden the lesser Sciroccos on same bike one after the other and they feel dead in comparison. Fulcrums feel like riding through sludge now... thats why they're on the winter bike.

Thanks for the info, think I'll get some of those then :D
  • What is the difference in quality and durability between Zondas and Euros?

Zondas use stainless steel ultra aero spokes :D
Eurus wheels use harsher aluminium spokes

If you want to jump up to that level, the Shamals aren't that much more. Personally I love the Zondas and they make my Ventos (the ones which are equal to Fulcrum 7's) feel like they're being ridden through treacle. So that's why they get used in winter with the mudguards. Come summer I just put the Zondas on the same titanium masterpiece, then I take the mudguards off and I'm just a set of tribars away from a rocket ship :D
  • depends how much your gonna pay for them - Campag Neutrons can be had for £370 at parkers - worth thinking about - get excellent reviews.

I have Eurus and don't think shamal's are worth the extra - they are the same bar the carbon hub - both can take the shamal ceramic upgrade (if you are that way inclined)

The zondas do get a great write up though - they are one of the wheels (along with fulcrum 5s) which I don't think I have read anything bad about.

I prefer the look of the wide alu-spokes on my eurus - but I am aware that it 'could' affect the ride quality (they are bloody solid!)

If you run campag gearing you can get the Eurus for £399 if you're quick, that looks like a great deal to me.

Yes, very good wheels. I would go for the Zondas and then consider Shamals as the next upgrade if you want.

yes - go for this if you can! - nearly as good a price as I got them for last year - and remember other places have these at over £600 - so a lot of wheel for the money!

If I had the cash I'd have jumped on that deal, but I just splashed out frame/forks/headset/shifters for my new build.

Most of my bits are coming off the Nero Corsa, and plan to upgrade over time:

Nice - i'l follow that with interest.

btw - i notice you have record shifters with the centaur stuff - I remember us buying the centaur group at start of 08 - I also upgraded to record shifters earlier this year but have recently upgraded the front and rear mech to record too. The front hasn't made a monkeys of difference (although it looks prettier) but the rear has really (no, really) changed the feel of shifting at the back. I thought before I installed the mech that the spring rate felt much higher on the record one to what I remember of the centaur - and when fitted it seems to have really changed the shift feel - crisper and quicker - especially if you are changing a few cogs at once - really nice.

A Record rear mech is definitely something I want, I'll probably get one on ebay when it comes up at the right price.

Good wheel - solid as anything. Not particularly exciting though. Compared to my Reynolds Alta Race, they feel pretty sluggish if that makes any sense...
