Bike box bother.

I'm planning on taking my Scott Addict on holiday. It's an integrated seatpost R1 so finding a secure transportation method is proving tricky.

Bikeboxalan seem most suitable but the price is hefty(£389).

Anybody had the same problem & what was the solution? Hacksaw?

Andy.

Hacksaw, some epoxy glue and some gaffer tape should see you sorted!

Bikeboxalan is good sturdy piece of kit, provided your bike fits inside. Alternative is to use a decent, well-packed soft bag, but superlight carbon doesn't like being crushed.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

You haven't specified where or how you are going on holiday with the bike.

Make sure that whatever method of transportation you decide upon, if you fly, when at the check-in desk, ask for several 'Fragile' stickers to place prominently on the outside of your bike box/package.

If its going in the back of the car, bubble wrap it.

My experience is that transporting the bike is the most stressful thing possible.

With that in mind, buy the best box possible. The bikeboxalan is a rigid version of the Polaris Bikepod that I have, and has worked well for me on several trips abroad with my Litespeed Icon. I do still use an entire large roll of bubblewrap, plus pipe lagging etc.

At £389, it is worth knowing your bike will be in one piece at the other end, and is a relatively small percentage of the bikes overall cost. Add to that the cost of hiring a bike if you were to find yours damaged on arrival, and the peace of mind when sat on the plane, knowing you have at least a fighting chance of having an undamaged bike.

Like I said above, I nearly always have some sort of nervous breakdown when travelling with my bike, I am a bit anal about it all, much to the amusement of my mates who wrap a bit of cardboard round theirs and stuff it in a soft bag. That said last time, one packed like this came out with a bent chainring, mine was fine....

Take the chainset and saddle off and the bike should fit into the box without any hassle.

I race Ironman Tri abroad so fly every year with my bike - I went against the integrated seatpost because it adds so much to the height. I've used the hard shell cases but find the soft bags easier provided you pad every inch of the bike with pipe lagging.

You can hire bike boxes too ?

Where does your bike want to go on holiday ? I think you're spoiling her. :D

Don't forget that you can hire from Bikeboxalan...
