Best time to buy

There seems to be good discounts on 2009 models at the moment. I was contemplating entering the cycle2work scheme which means waiting until mid January. Can you still get good discounts around this time or do they dry up with everyone receiving there vouchers? Can't decide whether to just get one now or wait.

Not all places let you have reduced bikes on the schemes.
  • You need to weigh up whether the discount on the 09 version is greater than what you`d get by buying on the ctw scheme.Don`t forget you are also paying monthly and getting interest free if you buy on ctw,an option which isn`t always available on sale bikes.

  • I think you'll find the discounts are on previous years models, not always a bad thing, but I doubt the discount (10 to 20%)will be as much as the scheme saving (30 to 40%).

I've seen some bikes of interest with around 40% discount so will be about the same. Obviously paying monthly interest free and getting a new model has a slight advantage.

Do most shops charge full rrp for the cycle2work vouchers then, i.e. i've seen a 2010 model for £100 under rrp in a lbs. Can they make you pay full rrp on the c2w vouchers if they are selling it for less on the shop floor? Was kind of hoping to get a good discounted bike then discounted even further via c2w.

Anyone got any links to any good threads that discuss c2w, will have a search myself as well

I was told the retailer looses about 10% on CTW sales. However, I would have thought they have to sell any item at the advertised price, what ever that is, regardless of CTW.

There are many different schemes and all have varying rules, some of which are applied and others that are not. I have just bought a GT I-Drive on the Halfords scheme and was told firstly that I could get it on a special 20% off GT bikes web offer :D and then that I couldn't.

After much discussion, argument and checking I was then told that I could. :D

When the Letter of Collection came through it states quite clearly that it can't be used in conjunction with special web offers.......but they accepted it as payment and I collected it yesterday 8)

So I would say the moral of the story is, check the rules of the scheme, then ask the shop and if you don't get the answer you want try again at another shop!! Maybe I was just fortunate to be able to take advantage of Halfrauds incompetence.

  • Only way to tell,is to settle on your choice of bike, then check deals and specs on the 90 v 10 model.Be aware that in some case 2010 version s have been downgraded to keep the cost the same,or will be more expensive than the rrp of the 09 version, due to exchange rate driven price increases.
