Do my brakes need bleeding?

My Hayes Stroker Ryde rear brake has suddenly become useless. They are awful. Regardless how hard i pull the lever they have no stopping power. The pads are fine, the disks are fine aswell. Is it likely to be air in the system.
I transport my bike in my car then cycle the rest of the way to work. Could it be that air has got in the system as the bike has been lying on its side for a while.
Cheers everyone!!!

but if the lever is the same as before then the pads and discs are contaminated."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
