Firstly, i do not want this to turn into a Helmet/No Helmet debate.... some do, some don't, lets leave it as that.

What I do want to say is that I recently got a Sealskinz High Viz beanie, and it is superb. Waterproof, warm and bright. Only downside is that it gets wet inside from sweat, but I really do like it.

What headgear do you wear for cycling that you like (apart from a helmet).

  • I have a semi-waterproof beanie with a peak, by a snowboarding company called Special Blend. I like it very much!

I just got a polar head tube thingy from Mountain Warehouse.

I walked the dogs in "Ninja" mode last night and rode in with it as neck buff this morning.

I'm waiting for my ear warmer to come. My helmet keeps my head warm as it's rather old and not as ventilated as newer ones seem to be but my ears feel the chill. So I'll be wearing that from now on.
  • my choice of head gear is a buff. most versatile piece of gear I own (well I own 3 now, including a reflective one which I am very pleased with)....I wear one under my helmet in various ways :D
I swear by them, always worn one as a neck warmer on my motorbike come rain or shine....keeps neck and chin warm wonderfully.
  • Buff's all the way baby!! Wear them as a bandana in the summer (soaks up the sweat) and as a beanie in the winter (keeps ya bonce warm)

Or as a balaclava if it's really cold and snowing

If it's proper arctic I go for 2 buffs, One round the head the other round the face & neck.

i've got a fleecy neck warmer and a large noddy style red and black stripey hat, best piece of headgear i've ever bough, only thing that keeps me warm regardless of temp, better than thinsulate and polartec hats!

Another vote for a Buff (TM) as the most versatile piece of headwear and definitely thing to have!
Can even be worn under a helmet (if you choose to wear one :-)).

  • I got one from Aldi last week, they were selling it with the running stuff:

It's the one on the right. Fits very nicely under my helmet and covers my ears. Haven't worn it yet, but I think I'll like it a lot when I need it.

    - Endura skull cap.
    - Buff on the neck/face
    - Yellow tint glasses
    - Head torch on the helmet which gives my neck muscles a good workout during the winter months.

  • I lost my fleecy ear warmer last year and replaced it with a buff. best move I made, all the warmth without clammy lugs at the end of it.

    buffs rule
  • grab yourself a windstopper buff...new out this year, has gore windstopper membrane in the low part and normal buff upper. its on my christmas list :) warm, windproof and better than the fleecy ones as these ones are proper windproof no just fleecy.

@highwaymunky...like the idea of 2 buffs in winter...gonna give that a go until the windstopper one is delivered by santa

In the summer, always a cap under the helmet.

In the late autumn/winter, either a Helly Hansen beanie under my cap, or a thermal Assos skull cap over my cap (it covers my ears too).
