Going to be up near Kilmarnock from Saturday for a week.
Normally take the mountain bikes and travel to the 7 Staines but thought we might take the road bikes for a change.
Looking for 50 to 100 mile rides with good scenery and ideally some climbs- happy to drive up to a couple of hours to get to a start point.
Also have(well my son has) a garmin 605 so can upload GPX files
Any and all suggestions welcome
Thanks in advance

Mike,
You're not far away from Arran which is as good a road cycling desitination in the Uk as anywhere. Drive 25 mins to Ardrossan then take the bike on the ferry. You can do a lap of the island (55miles) or a figure 8 (75miles). Some great hills and scenery.0 -
OK Arran is one day sorted-sounds a great idea thanks FH
Any other suggestions or GPX logs0 -
Have a look at the Southern Uplands sportive which had 3 different routes to choose from all of which take in the Mennock Pass and Lowther Hill.
Great scenery up there if you get the right weather.
This link was the 100 mile circuit completed this year.

Log on to the Glasgow Nightingale website. They go out every sunday as a club 10~20 riders covering 60~80 miles and only an hour up the road from Kilmarnock.

Look for route of the Trossachs Ton, 100 miles ride round, funnily enough, the Trossachs. You could amend route as required. Plenty good routes around Callander.
Also closed to cars road around Loch Katrine is good (it is part of Trossachs Ton route)
Avoid Loch Lomond road between Tarbet and Ardlui.
If you are wanting cracking scenery, drive to Bridge of Orchy, leave car, cycle up, then down Glen Coe, do a lap of Loch Leven, then back up and down Glen Coe. Stunning."Encyclopaedia is a fetish for very small bicycles"0 -
Don't know if you fancy a group ride? The Braveheart Fund ride is on Saturday 31st - starts in Kilmarnock too. There should be a bunch of pros riding - can't remember who exactly, although Wiggins and Gilbert have been mentioned. Places are limited, so I'd be quick if you want to do it:

Arran was fantastic-really enjoyed it but ran out of time for the figure of 80
