Exposure Diablo

Been looking at buying a set of lights to indulge in some Night riding.
My budget is approx £200.00 and I was set on getting the Exposure Joystick maxx 2 (mounted on helmet), with a £60 set for mounting on the handlebars.
However, a mate suggested what about just getting Exposure Diablo.
Just wandering as this is a new product for 2010 and not much reviews available on the internet does anyone on here use this light? Or do you know anybody that uses the lights? What are your thoughts? Alternatively any other suggestions with my budget would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

This is the most hideously overpriced bike light I have ever seen! You can buy nigh on the same thing from DX (as in the What Lights thread) for abour £30. Same LED emitter. Same cell.0

I second Sonic`s suggestion. The DX P7 is a brilliaint bit of kit for £30.I also bought a charger, mount and 4 batteries and still had change from £50.
Their magic shine light is also worth a look.Lots of positive feedback on the Singletrack forum.2006 Giant XTC

yes but the 18650's are unreliable IME and ordering from DX seems to take a lifetime ATM, so there is a downside, great lights though no doubt.0

I've had 8 18650s, not one failure... Not seen many reports of failures on here either.Uncompromising extremist0

Th diabolo uses a 186500 -
ahh well in that case it's hideously overpriced :-) :-)
As mentioned on other thread in 8 weeks two of my batteries have died.0 -
Yup, but then SS pointed out that it was likely a charger not the cells themselves...Uncompromising extremist0

And with batteries costing £3 each its npot the end of the world.Buy 4 and keep them charged.
They don`t like being completely run down either so swap them before they dim.2006 Giant XTC

Thanks for the replies.
I have decided to give the Exposure Diablo a miss, as it does seem overpriced when compared to the ones suggested from Deal Extreme. I have therefore decided to give the Magicshine 900 a try.
Thanks

I don't run them completely down and £3 each is fine if you can get them, last order from dx sat there for a full 3 weeks without anything happening, so yes it is a problem using these batteries, i have ordered a tonne of them from bestoffebuy now.
And yes I had 6, two died but i need at least 6 as do long rides, if it is the chargers, I have 2 of these, then why when they have all been charged 30 times or more, have only 2 of the 6 died? Doesn't figure does it?
I am right behind the P7 torches but they are hindered by these batteries IMO, let's see how other people get on once they have charged theirs loads, I accept I could be unlucky.0 -

I can say that the Exposure Diablo is a great light if you do not mind spending the money.
I run one of these on the helmet along with an Enduro Maxx on the bars. Just like daylight riding
Yes you can buy cheaper but in my opinion you cannot beat buying a product that is made for a specific purpose (preparing to be crucified  )0 -
I don't see what makes it any more specific to its cause than the torch though - just about the same shape, same cells, same LED - all you get extra withthe diabolo is a mount incuded and charger!0

You could equally say "If it's the batteries, why did they last 30 charges before they died, doesn't figure does it?" If they're totally dead, most likely the protection circuit has blown, which generally means overcharging but could also mean shorting (ie, the torch or batteries may be defective, or the batteries might be shorting elsewhere, getting wet in a pocket maybe?)

I don't know how many times mine have been charged... I had 6, which were being used twice a week offroad and constantly for commuting all last winter, and they get used as torches too, so let's say 50-60 charges each. Some more, some less though. Then, part discharged them for summer storage, and started using them again a few weeks back. Just got another 2 for convenience and the old 6 function exactly the same as the 2 brand new ones.
Torches are far from the only gadgets using these, they're the standard option for laptops among other things. How often do you hear of laptop batteries dying?Uncompromising extremist0 -

i see your point that it is effectively the same product, but from experience it just works better.
the guy i ride with has DX lights and he is forever adjusting the mounts, stopping to ensure the battery contact points are aligned properly after they cut out.
none of these have happened in 3 years of using my enduro maxx and i do not foresee these issues with the diablo either.0 -
None of that happens with my torch though lol.0

tbh, buy a charger and batteries from the uk... I've not had any issues with the ones i bought from the photonshop.co.uk alongside my TK11, and did not have a long wait for my p7 either!0

well they didn't one lasted 3 charges and the other one 30, the other 4 are alive and well.
they certainly haven't got wet at any point, I just think they are a bit delicate for what we use them for, though accept they are still the best solution out there.
when you say you part discharge them what exactly do you mean do you have a discharger or you leaving the torches powered up for a while?0 -

i guess he's just unlucky :?0 -
With that sort of budget id plump for a troutlight which pretty much decimates all out there atm.
http://www.troutie.com/mainpage.htmlThe trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.

What are his prices across the range?0

Would need convincing of the waterproofing and sealing on them before i paid for them.0
-
Can anyone comment on the DX in terms of the reflector and the illumination?
I know the Diablo is sued as a spot - how about the DX? will that be suitable for off-road trail riding?
thanks for all

The reviews I've seen on the Diablo say it's not got enough punch and is to floody.0

I just use an energiser torch that weighs next to nothing and lights up forest tracks no problem, cabletied to a cheap tescos front light bracket (after tesco light died)
cost £5 half price and included batteries lolUnlike my credit card im currently carrying a low level of interest- Peter Griffin
