i have to make my choice between:
1.: budget shimano WH RS 20 - stainless steel spokes, steel non cartridge bearings,
2.: budget mavic aksium 2010, - QRM replaceable cartridge bearings,
3.: $500 shimano WH SR 80 - stainless steel spokes, steel non cartridge bearings,
4.: shimano dura-ace WH 7850 50 mm carbon rim, only rear wheel,
5.: shimano dura-ace WH 7850 SL, only rear wheel,
6.: mavic ksyrium SL premium, QRM + cartridge bearings, only rear wheel,
7.: mavic cosmic carbone SL, only rear wheel, why steel spokes?!

All nice, perfectly useful wheels. Which ones do YOU want? And which ones are you willing to pay for? Don't ask us. Ask yourself. You're the one you have to please. Get what you want or the one YOU think looks best. What's the deal with cartridge and non cartridge bearings? FWIW loose bearings are generally considered the better way to go.0 -
as i heard, once first mavic ksyrium first seen the light rear wheel had 4 (two on each side) bearings as all zipp rear hubs have,
cartridge bearings can be easyly replaced to higher grade)),
mavic QRM + shoulb be ceramic on stainless steel laces, mavic QRM should be steel on stainless steel laces,
mavic QRM SL should be a technologycal miracle)),
the best imaginable are ceramic on ceramic laces, but still most zipp (indeustry leader) hubs have higher grade stainless steel bearings than most ceramic bearings on the market have (zipp you tube),
as shimano PDF saying all shimano whells including dura-ace have non cartridge bearings, unfortunately i havent manage to find information on shimano spokes as it all stainless steel, and shimano bearings as it all steel or stainless steel,0 -

Not sure what to make of the list - 2 budget wheels v 1 expensive wheel ?? - however, for a reasonabale priced pair the RS80's are excellent - they use the same ultralight-rims that are used on some higher end 2009 Shimano wheelsets and the build quality is as good as ever (with decent hubs etc) - obviously, if you've got the cash, go for the DA7850 or Cosmics - however, if you're on a "budget". I quite like the look of the RS80's.
Read some reviews online to get a better feel for the above wheelsets.0 -
thanks for the answer,
1. are cosmics better when ksiriums when priced the same?
2. are duraces better when ksiriums with the same price?0 -

I think you're making way, way, way, more of this issue than there is to it, what with ceramic, steel, stainless steel, and so on. What do you want your wheels to be, poser, racing, touring, commuting, what? Whatever you decide you want I would urge you to get something dependable that can actually be used for whatever type of riding, and the conditions, that you have in mind. Or simply buy the ones you think look the best and ride around town looking good and have people ohhhh and ahhhh.0
