Been done twice before. Can't remember the riders, but I'll look it up if I have the time and if nobody else does
  • Have a team ever had such a different end to the season as the start?

All three end of season classics for the snoring boys.

The Autumn Double refers to Paris–Tours and the Giro di Lombardia, run within a week of each other. The races are different - Lombardia is for climbers - making the double difficult. Only three have achieved it: Philippe Thys (Belgium) in 1917, Rick van Looy in 1959 and Dutchman Jo de Roo in 1962 and 1963.

Sorry. 4 times - Phillipe Thys (1918), Van Looy (59) and Jo de Roo (62 and 63), according to wikipedia

  • Must be a mark of the new, clean peloton, that Gilbert can drop all those GT climbers in the second hilliest classic.

Anyhow, he has effectively turned Lotto's disasterous season into a success.

    That's it.
