Energy/Recovery drinks without the nasties?

I was looking for a recovery drink recently and read that some of them use aspermantane (sp?). This was something I'd always avoided after reading somewhere that it was bad for you. This got me thinking about what it was I was putting into my body in terms of energy drinks etc. I feel like a bit of a nutritional Luddite in admitting this, but I do tend to avoid 'non-natural' foods...
So does anyone have any recommendations for more 'wholesome' sports drinks?

I'm going down the Ovaltine chocolate milk shake powder and milk and see how it compares to 2 years on REGO. Read in CPlus that chocolate milk shakes can be an effective recovery drink.0

I like stuff from hammer nutrition:

There's quite a lot of stuff on their website about why they don't put a lot of extra stuff into their products. Reading the ingredients compared to like SIS or MaxiMuscle is quite interesting.....0 -
I have been using this energy drink for about a year now. Maybe not as tasty as High5 but if you stock up when they are on a 2 for 1 deal, its good value.
