Team road stages?

Has any major race ever tried running team road stages, where the finishing time is taken by the fifth (or some other number) man on the team to finish, as in a team time trial?

What effect would this have on the racing?

    The effect? Huge pile-up crashes.

    Surprisingly, multiple team time trials in the TDF have already been tried (but I suspect this is not quite what you meant, interesting though)
