OK, I'm looking for a good quality winter jersey. I'm possibly thinking about the Assos Intermidiate jersey, but I think the arms are quite thin material. Just looking for a good all round jersey for the winter. I don't really want a jacket or anything to heavy or bulging. Thanks folks

Don't be put off by the sleeves on the Intermediate Evo. Good 'jersey' by all accounts. I have the Element One which are both jersey/jacket type and the sleeves are also thin on that but for this time of year it's great with a decent base layer.

It's quality Assos so you can't go wrong.

+1.... I can vouch for both. The Assos is nice but the Rapha Winter jersey somehow feels warmer - I think the softer feel fabric does it.

The Assos Intermediate is an autumn jersey, rather than winter. Assos 851 is what I'd class as a winter jacket - just a base layer underneath is good ofr most days. The Intermediate (again with base layer) is good for days like today, where there's an early morning (or late evening) chill.
Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos
  • I just bought the 851 jacket from Beyond Mountain Bikes in Smithbrook Kilns, Cranleigh. Absolute bargain too, just waiting now for the mercury to drop to justify wearing it :D

it's not cold enough yet for an 851, which is why i wear an Element One for autumn time.

I have a nice merino jersey from Ground Effect - thats really good when its cool. When its properly cold - I think you need a proper jacket though.

I would totally agree and totally love mine but Rapha have stopped doing a winter jacket for some reason.
Long sleeve jerseys, stoways and softshells - yes, but no winter jacket. Strange.
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

It was this morning  Temperature was 3 degrees C when I set off so wore the 851 for first time since last winter. With baselayer was just right.

agree - the rapha winter jersey is awesome - it seems to have been discontinued but if you look - it is in the clearance section!

That's where I got mine, wouldn't have paid full price. Even at the clearance price they are still pricey (but worth it)

    Got mine in clearance too.

Must be the final clearance now as they only have small and x-small left

If they do it again, the Raha Winter Jersey. The Element 1 comes near it. The Intermediate is a very versatile piece of kit. Using different thickness base layers, some armwarmers and and a gilet/rain jkt over the top means it can get you through most things

the only thing slightly wrong with the rapha

    - the windproof liner part on the inside of the chest is ace, but - I wish they had put just a little bit on the front of the upper arm - just at the front of the bicep.

it's OK once you get going as you are hot then (usefull zipped vents on the chest) but when you start the ride off those bits don't half feel cold!

I think the Assos is similar. A bit of windstopper on the arms would improve it no end.

This could be said for the Element one and the Evo, although my arms have never got cold per se.

Agree with that - my arms are where I feel the cold in my rapha winter jersey. It's a great top though - I've started wearing it again in the last couple of weeks with a long sleeve base layer and it's perfect. Really glad I bought it as it gets a lot of use (I got it in last year's sale for £90 - well worth the cash - in fact on a £ per use basis, it's better value than a number of my cheaper jerseys).

I'm not convinced it's quite warm enough for full blown winter though, unless you are really horsing it. I'm thinking about getting a softshell to cover that base shortly...

    I really like this jersey:

Specialized Eureka Element Jersey (google it for pics)

It's pretty heavyweight and has a high collar, windproof sections on the front too. Think it retails for £80 but i paid £60 from a site (can't remember which), there are a few on ebay at the mo.
