Anyone got one?
Been on the website and the prices are mega, plus as a soldier in germany i can get the tax off at 19%. With the winter coming and a budget of 3000 euro list price which model would you get? looking at chours, record, red and DA models.
Edging to the chours standard and buying some wheels in spring.
Which colour?

You trust complete strangers to decide what colour, rather than your own taste?
They're good bikes but without saying what you're after you'll get a million opinions here, none of which might be relevant to you.
FWIW they're supposed to be very stiff, racing biased bikes. Good quality but I've heard of less than perfect paint finishes. Do you alreasdy have a bike? Do you want the new kit to be compatible so you can share wheels etc? Can't go wrong with Chorus if you like the shifting, have you tried it?0 -
I've also heard of diabolical customer service too, I personally wouldn't but it's your money.0

Apparently made by Giant. Might as well just get a Giant?Racing for Fluid Fin Race Team in 2012 - www.fluidfin.co.uk0

Yeah, but Giant make bikes for loads of people, Colnago for example. Mind you i took your advice, I've 3 Giants!0

Have you seen Cadel's new Canyon? I like the subtle World champ stripes.

I personally like the white pro-team look as per above.
Also as per above, meant to be really stiff frames - weightweenies is probably the place to look for opinions on them.
Their customer service seems to have got a bit of a bad rap recently.0 -
Lots of people comment on tall head tubes on Canyons, some cant get low enough... look at the 73deg stem on that pic of Cadels, thats on there for that reason, and look up his TDF TT bike where they cut out the front of the headtube of the Speedmax CF he was riding to clamp a stem assembly lower on the fork column. Its not that Cadel's a freak either, look at the dimensions, the headtubes are on the long side for a lot of people wanting a lower position.
I looked closely at a Speedmax CF frameset but the headtube plus the awful reponse times to queries made me not buy. Email them with a question and see for yourself if you think that the service is satisfactory bearing in mind you might be spending thousands. It scares me to think what they'd be like if you had a problem, plus the fact they're not in this country.
All that aside they do seem to be very nice bikes, so shame they can't sort out their service problems.0 -
cheers lads
i live 3 hours from the showroom and the missus is a boxhead so shes doing the leg work. Looked at sizes and can only get the super record in a 56 the size i need. So will try to beg them to swoop parts over.
I'm down with the black.
Need new bike a my old one is a write off.eating parmos since 1981

Don't have one but tried to buy one last year in their sale, all I can say is that the speed of response to questions was terrible. I actually had paid for a frame in stock and recieved no delivery information - it turned out Canyon had closed for two weeks to stock take. When they came back I e mailed and phoned and got nowhere, eventually two weeks after they came back from stock take I cancelled my order - funny they were really quite keen to talk to me then. Shame, because they look really nice bikes for the money and the geometry suits me, maybe one day i'll try againCiao Marco0

I too have heard the finishing on Canyon frames isn’t always top-notch, but I’ve also heard similar criticism of other quality bikes (Rotwild, Scott), and I suspect in all cases this might just be nit-picking ... because nothing else can be found remotely unsatisfactory.incog24 wrote:Apparently made by Giant. Therefore, if Giant do make the frames, presumably they do so to Canyon specifications, i.e. the frames are not mass-produced generic frames which Canyon just pick up and paint.
A cycling friend has a Canyon Ultimate CF 8, with triple ring, and he seems pretty happy with it. However, although I think it’s under 7 kg, there’s something about its look, which to me makes it appear heavy and puts me off it – I think it might be the difference in diameters between the top tube and the oversized down tube.
You see similar on some Giant (and Focus) bikes, so maybe Giant do make the Canyon frames and there is some compromise understanding between Giant and Canyon about the design.marco67 wrote:Don't have one but tried to buy one last year in their sale, all I can say is that the speed of response to questions was terrible… it turned out Canyon had closed for two weeks to stock take.
I’m told if you visit their showroom, they will let you test ride the shop model of the bike in which you’re interested, or the closest equivalent, in your size. So if you have the chance to go there, you don't have to buy completely blind.0 -
I gave up trying to get a bike (MTB) from them. Enquired in April only to be told two weeks later that they wouldn't have any until September. Needless to say, I purchased something else.0

Well after to 2 weeks should pay for the canyon friday. The customer service has been good but thats because everything was done over the phone in german by my partner. Emails are slow because it the old german paper trail (2-3 people doing one persons job etc). when for a higher spec as they were not going to give me the discount if they had to swap the frames around so i could get the right size in the chorus, the problem is they have released the 2010 chorus in the same spec as the 2009 but at 100 euro cheaper read into that what you want.eating parmos since 1981

Owning canyon my self, I can vouch for the poor CS.
But the bikes are awesome, stiff by yet very comfortable.
The top tube is slightly higher/bigger to support decent stability, and canyon has acknowledged it by offering a lower headset on their 2010 range. Also if you want to have your handlebar lower as they are now offering 73 dgs stems.
Only real problem is the 1 1/4 fork leaving your with few choices of stems and few oppertunities for part upgrades and that you can not custom build the bike in terms of lenght of stem & crank arms as you only get the standard size on the website.
And if you want to do a post-buy upgrade at you LDS- the bike will eventually cost you the same.0
