Got stung by the ebay parcel not delivered scam again today for the 3rd time in 6 months. I had a shiny expensive gadget that I never used in its box with all instructions put it on ebay for £200 buy it now and it went inside of half an hour. Parcelforce next day guaranteed delivery posted it last week sent buyer email to let them know it was on the way. Checked tracking number it was delivered next day as promised.

Checked my emails and a message from paypal they have taken back the £220 I was paid parcel not delivered. Went down to post office and the guy on the counter says its happening all the time he reckons 1 in 10 ebay parcels go missing what  so parcelforce only lose ebay parcels he just grinned and shrugged his shoulders.

Thats it for me with ebay until they sort out this mess I cant be doing with this filling in forms all the time trying to claim back my money. I can understand 1 parcel going missing but not 3 and all since they changed the rules making it easy peasy to sign with an illegible squiggle and claim your money back.

Are you serious?! Mate, that sucks...

I've currently got 2 items on there, both of a respectable value.. I'm now hoping everything goes alright with them!! :?
  • I've had things go wrong for me on ebay only when selling buy it now items.

I've since stopped and only used auction style with a reserve and had no problems since.

hmm.... i would ask the Royal mail for writen confirmation of the signatory... then contact paypal explaining that the item was delivered as expected and that you have proof courtesy of the RM, then explain that you are happy to contact the police and small claims court as this is enough evidence to prove the buyer is trying to commit an act of fraud. and then ask whether paypal are going ot reverese their decision? if they dont then do them and the buiyer...if they do then carry on your way and make sure the bloke has his account blocked. ;)

end of the day you have categorical proof it was delivered to the address he specified. paypal should have asked before removing the funds from your account.

Thinking back they were buy it now might be something to think of in the future

It was Parcelforce not Royal mail and when you look at the signature on the website its just a squiggle could be anyone from Hitler to the Queen signed for it. Unfortunately Paypal is set up to look after the buyer and the seller can just go and suck it up as far as they are concerned. :x

unfortunately this kind of fraud is not due to the set up of paypal, it's down to the "distance selling regulations".

all anyone needs to do is say the package was not delivered and bang they get their money back. also the buyer can tell the seller the item is faulty and they are not required to return the goods to the seller, the buyer is only obliged to make a reasonable attempt at making the goods available to be picked up.

did you take out any insurance with parcelforce? or is that perhaps included in the cost of using them, i'd push parcelforce of this one, surely they should ensure that the item is delivered to only the addressee and no one else.

might be worth a punt at paypal too as mentioned above.

The parcel was insured so I will get the full value back plus postage its just the mucking about filling in forms thats irritating. Plus I have to wait now for a cheque and I really wanted that money to buy some new winter cycling gear.

So this is why sellers keep asking for a minimum amount of feedback before accepting bids now. I rarely use flea bay but was thinking of selling something in the next few weeks worth about £100, I might think again...

The buyer whose parcel went missing is a classic now I look again only been signed on for a month 10 feedback but all small purchases of a couple of quid just enough to create an honest looking profile. Muggins here left feedback as soon as I got payment so now they have 11 positive.

Might be an idea to googleearth any buyers address the postcode I posted to is an industrial estate :x

    You can't leave a neg for a buyer :(

    Call paypal on 08707301880

you won't have a secure web pin number unless you find the phone number by logging in and looking for it so just say "agent" whenever it asks you to make a verbal choice

you will need the tracking number of the missing parcel along with the paypal transaction id and ebay item number

you will need to be very patient and stand your ground politely

you may also need to cry but unless its a credit card charge back (they would contact you first) you are covered by paypal seller protection which will work if you have a tracking number with a signature - even a squiggle

the ebay Q&A board has all the steps but be careful on there - they will eat you alive

oh and you only have a few days to do this
