Hi there
I would welcome any opinions on the Decathlon Rockrider 5.3. I'm looking for something I can use on single track for leisure purposes. Seems like good value but I'd like to hear more...
Thanks, Jo

One of the best value bikes at that price.0

Have a look at the Carrera Vulcan Disc at Halfords too. I couldn't decide between them but went with the Vulcan and haven't been disappointed. But don't pay full price for the Vulcan - wait for an offer, which happens frequently.0

Which there is at the moment.... making it £20 cheaper than the rockrider.
Is the spec on the rock marginally better tho?Cool, retro and sometimes downright rude MTB and cycling themed T shirts. Just MTFU.

The vulcan has lock-out too, personally I'd have the Vulcan due to it's looks. At this price range you shouldn't be worried about the gearset - it will do it's job.0 -
I've got a rockrider 6.3 which is basically the same components as the 5.3 bull a full sus frame.
For the money it's a great spec, I'd go with the rockrider. Don't agree with Missmarple, would always choose specs over looks tbh.0 -

So would I normally but that Vulcan is a stunning bike - I'm normally the one recommending bTwins over name brand stock!0 -
Nutha vote for the Vulcan here. Ive got one and ive recently changed the gears, brakes, wheels and tires and it almost like having an entirely new bike.
The frame is very good, stiff and fairly light for what it is and will take some good upgrades like mine has well.0 -
Would you recommend the Vulcan over the Krakenor the Vengeance?
I realise the RRPs on both of those - especially the Vengeance - is probably a bit dubious, but are they obviously better bikes than either the Rockrider or the Vulcan or is it just spin?
(First time poster looking to get into bikes after a long layoff, so thanks in advance for advice)0 -
The Kraken is a better bike than both of those. Superior forks and drivetrain.0
-
Thanks for that. So the higher RRP on the vengeance really is a bit of marketing spin so they can drop the price hugely and make it look like a bargain, then?
If the Kraken is better than the Vulcan, Vengeance or Rockrider, is there a better way to spend £300 on a hardtailfor light-to-moderate riding on paths and road with the (very) occasion bit of serious stuff?
Is Ebay a safe place to look, second hand to spend my £300, or am I better sticking with a Kraken, brand new for warranties etc?0 -
The Vengeance is not worth the RRP.
I wouldn't go ebay or second hand really - try a rockrider and kraken out and choos what feels best.0 -
Use this code at the on-line checkout AFFREG10 to get further 10% a halfords bike. you can still pick up in store if you like.0

I would spend more, and get the rockrider 5xc at £370 - it has juicy 3's, which is incredible value, as some others in that price range just have v brakes, such as the spec hardrock comp. It also rides like a much more expensive bike, and has x5, and the fork is pretty decent too, despite being suntour.0
